Our 10 Rules of success in Agriculture business

The farmer is the main producer of food, until recently, farmers were the main producers of clothing as well. They grew cotton, sheep to cut wool, animals, use their skin for shoes and clothes, and, for example, rabbits, nutria, foxes, minks and even sables, so that people had beautiful and warm hats and fur coats.

Of course, recently this sector of agriculture has significantly narrowed, as people have learned to produce clothes and shoes from synthetic materials, but the food is still the work of farmers. Moreover, due to the rapid population growth in the world, the food supply has become an urgent problem, and its production by traditional methods cannot provide the need due to low productivity and dependence on natural conditions.

People have long understood that, as they say, "God rely on Gd, but don’t go bad yourself." Lying under a palm tree and waiting for some delicious fruit to fall right into your hands is a futile task because there are too many competitors waiting for the same fruit to fall. The main and key factor in progress is laziness. It makes the brain work and creates ways to make life easier. All this is called engineering and technology, mechanization and automation. The second engine of progress is, of course, the benefit. Each of us wants to get great benefits from our work, and this is possible if we work not only with our own hands but above all with our own heads. In countries where agriculture is well developed, only 2-3% of the population work in this sector and provide food for everyone else. In countries where innovation, technology, knowledge and best practices are treated with caution, and in some places even neglected, 20-50% of the population is employed in agriculture, but the food is still scarce. ... How to become a successful farmer? The most important thing is to approach your work creatively and intelligently.

  1. CHOOSE YOUR SPECIALIZATION -
Choosing the best specialization for your farm is very difficult. For example, if everyone in the district grows cucumbers, then in no case do you need to duplicate the specialization of neighbors. Successful farmers determine what to grow, based on experience, studying the needs of the market, climatic conditions and the geographical location of the farm. Farm size is also important. If you want to grow wheat, sunflower, corn, sugar beets or, for example, hay and become a successful farmer, you will have to acquire hundreds or thousands of hectares of land. However, this is not always possible. Another way is to organize a highly profitable economy on a small land plot. This will require a lot of effort, and above all, intellectual. It is necessary to take into account the fact that for a successful business it is necessary to invest in the development of our own economy. For different countries, the success criteria of farmers vary significantly. Somewhere you can do nothing at all and live on subsidies and all kinds of state support programs, but in other countries, this is not so. However, everywhere a farmer can become successful. Let's see what you need to do to succeed.
  2. LAND -
It is the main means of production. If you do not have your own land, I do not advise you to try to become a farmer. The landowner who will give you land for rent is not interested in your success. He only cares about rent. Investing in a farm located on leased land, which you may be required to return at any time, is at least not rational. So, let's start with the land. If it belongs to you, you can start work on it.
  3. WATER -
It is the second resource after land to build a successful farm. Do not rely on rain. It can go or not, and everything will dry or rot on your site. The quality of the water available for your farm is also a very important factor. Do a chemical analysis of the water to make sure it is suitable for irrigation.
  4. THE CLIMATE -
It is very important to clearly understand what and how it can grow on your land. Outdoors or you need to hide under the roof. Even in countries with warm climates, modern farmers prefer to protect their production and thereby obtain guaranteed results.
  5. MAKE A BUSINESS PLAN FOR YOURSELF -

It is for yourself, and not for banks or investors. A real business plan, where all aspects of your farming are clearly spelled out, will help you a lot in the future. The main point of this document is marketing research. Explore the market. Deeply and thoroughly. Only in this way can you determine for yourself the general line of development. Clearly plan your required investments. Make this calculation with a reserve of at least 20%. It is impossible to foresee everything from the very beginning, so the risks must be considered. Clearly plan your farm management scheme and develop your marketing policy. Flexible and designed to maximize profits from grown products.
  6. LABOUR FORCE -
You need to understand initially how you plan to perform work on your farm. You can do it yourself, you can work with the whole family, but with large volumes, you have to look for labor. Are there people who want to work for you, living next to your farm? Make sure that there are no problems with working hands, especially during the harvest season.
  7. ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY -
Farmer's life is driven by market and competitiveness. For some reason, many people think that agriculture is terribly conservative, and everything needs to be done as our grandparents did. This is a big mistake. Want to be a successful farmer - be at the forefront of technology! Use modern equipment and technologies. Not necessarily the most expensive, but before deciding to use this or that equipment or technique, study the experience of other farmers. If you are sure that your choice is right, do as you decide. Be careful. Sometimes, outwardly, there are very similar things. Sometimes - you will receive a very bewitching price. Do not chase the cheapest. This is not always the best. And life shows that those who save a lot -usually pay twice.
  8. KNOWLEDGE -
Farmers must learn all their lives. On your own experience and on the experience of colleagues. Carefully study the world experience. Internet to help you. If possible, visit other countries, those countries where agriculture is at a higher level than in your country. Learn. Knowledge and experience will allow you to successfully compete with other farmers.
  9. DO NOT COUNT ON SUBSIDIES AND STATE ASSISTANCE -

If there is any help from the state, accept this help. But try to organize your business so that you can do with your own funds. Be self-sufficient and then everything will turn out!
  10. COMPETITION AND COOPERATION -
Competition is something without which there is no life on Earth. But surviving alone is also almost impossible. And for successful survival, there is cooperation. Cooperation is a team, a community of people, businessmen who unite on the principles of mutual benefit, support and compliance with the rules of honest and decent business. It works great in many countries of the world. If your cooperation is poorly developed, look for opportunities to create or revive it. A reasonable, honest, decent and mutually beneficial combination of private and public interests, this is cooperation. Cooperation will reduce your costs and expenses and increase profits. Collaborate with colleagues on clear, understandable, and transparent terms. Protect your honor and reputation. This is a guarantee of the successful work and success of your farm.
